Clogherhead

Clogherhead is a working fishing village a little further up the coast from Termonfeckin, built around Port Oriel — the largest fishing harbour in Ireland's northeast. It's a proper, unpolished village rather than a tourist spot, which is exactly its appeal.

Why visit
  • Port Oriel harbour, built in 1885, still lands a working fishing fleet
  • The surrounding coastline is a Special Area of Conservation, good for walking and rock-pooling
  • A long beach and cliff path make it popular for walkers, surfers and kitesurfers

Good to know: A good spot for a bracing walk any time of year — bring proper footwear for the cliff path.
